Grade inflation over time

Only if you have been paying attention to the pop reports over the years. But since you bring it up, I was. And yes the higher grades have greatly increased over the past 3-4 years in comparison to what they were before. And not just with moderns.

Anybody that puts any credence into what I have to say Paul does so because of my reputation and past history. And no, it's not the number of posts that I have made Paul but rather what I have said in them that matters

 

Again Paul, if you went back far enough you'd find that I have been a member of the CU forum, and the NGC forum, for as long as I have been a member of this one. You will also find that my reputation there is exactly what it is here.

 

Do ya now ? So you are refering to the posts made by the guys that I had to reprimand or ban from this site for rule violations. No, I wouldn't expect those guys to think much of me.

Or are you maybe referring to some comments I made here and then others posted the same questions over there to see what was said. I can recall a few of those too. And as I recall, oddly enough, the more knowledgeable members over there agreed with me. Imagine that !

I don't suppose you've actually done any searching for old posts to see what the folks around those 2 forums have had to say about me over the years though have ya ?

Regarding this, I have thought of a way that I can. At least partially. You see back around '03-'04 I built a spreadsheet recording the grades for Bust Half dollars from both NGC and PCGS. I still have that spreadsheet. It can be used to compare how many of what existed then - as compared to how many exist today.

Then there's this other little thing, it's a book published by NGC back in 2004. It contains the population reports.

So all that remains is to do a comparison or two. Do you have direct access to the two sets of pop reports ? I do not. All I can do is use Heritage to make comparisons, but I can do it.
