I RECEIVED THIS AS A GIFT. NOT SURE OF THE GRADE. IF ANYONE COULD HELP. THAT WOUDL BE GREAT. NOT SURE IF I SHOULD PAY TO GET IT GRADED OR NOT. jUST STARTED COLLECTING THIS PAST YEAR. aNY INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS. CHEERS,
Im not a pro, but judging from the pics, i'd say you are somewhere in the MS range. I got 2 of them an 1882 O (NGC graded MS-64, also a gift) and a 1891 O (me graded EF-20) and that one looks almost as nice as my 1882! Beautiful coin man!
Thanks for the feedback. I am new to coin collecting and picked up the bug quickly. I also have a 1887 ms65. I love these coins!
I was just offered $150 for it. turned it down. I want to collect all the morgans if possible. Any ideas of what this coin is worth?
I would not sell it!!! 1903-O Morgan Dollar is one of the rarer 1903's minted only the S mint is in a higher $ range, but this my help:kewl: http://www.pcgs.com/PRICES/PriceGuideDetail.aspx?MS=1&PR=1&SP=1&c=744&title=Morgan+Dollar One more. http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/CoinDetail.aspx?s=7286&redir=t
Thanks! I just bought an 1882-0 MS65 off of EBAY for $82. the pcgs says it is worth $1300?? Could this be right? I have a bad feeling about this one! This is the link to the sale: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...3&si=PKJzIB3pSwJowVKPDfad2s5kFEY%3D&viewitem= Any thoughts out there? I am new to the game of collecting, so forgive my naivete
You just got shafted. I can nearly guarantee you that coin is not MS and may very well be cleaned or worse, counterfeit. You should only trust slabs from PCGS and NGC... ANACS is very solid as well, but the grade variance is greater there, and their slabs bring less money.
I was able to cancel the transaction! YEAH!!! Thanks for the heads up. The guy was really nice about it. I am not buying on EBAY ever again.
Nothing wrong with buying on ebay... just only buy with good pictures and slabbed, unless you trust your grading and authentication skills enough to buy raw. That's a pretty big gamble though. I personally only chase slabs or bullion on Ebay and have caught a few nice coins doing so.
If I recall, that seller has a history of selling highly questionable coins . I would make a note about not buying from him . I don't even know who PCS is , but their graders certainly cannot grade coins.
That is great you were able to cancel the transaction. Like Merc crazy said, there is nothing wrong with buying coins on ebay. In fact, you are able to get fantastic deals. You just need to be comfortable and cautious on the item you are buying. High dollar items should definitely be slabbd by PCGS or NGC. Lower dollar items are all about the pictures. I have literally bought thousands of dollars worth of coins on ebay, and have never been scammed. Granted, no particular item was high dollar. But great deals nonetheless.
This is a beautiful coin. With those pictures, I would say at least MS65. ps: I am terrible at grading.
There is a flea market in my area that has about 20 morgans and 10 peace dollars diff dates and mints in VF-EF conditions from 20 to 40 bucks ea. Im goin back on my next payday and cleaning house. Its been a great resource so far. Im not goin for graded or MS unless i stumble across good deals. I plan on building a nice collection then joining a grading service and hoping for the best. I would say any morgan is worth $20 bucks. Right guys?
Thats what i thought.....i just don't understand why anyone would melt morgans. It kills my soul.. i'd give any one 20 bucks for one thats in at least F-12 cond. But thats me. Im sure no one on here melts coins. haha
I never really got it either, but it's apparently easier to sell rounds and bars of higher purity than the 90% composition of US silver coinage.
True, true. Thats if you are a seller. All i have ever sold outta my collection is a hand full of buffalo nickels to a kid my wife works with cause he's intrested in getting started in collecting. I've got some Kennedys and a few more buffalos i'd like to get rid of, but im not sure yet if im gonna talk around local or eBay. I don't sell my good stuff by any means!
