I'm trying to find out info on this dime and what it would be worth. I just weighed this coin. I am not sure how acurate my scale is but it weighed 3 grams and a normal dime weighed 2.
Yes, but mosty thick all around. I tried to show how it got thin with the two coins standing on end. It thins down to the thickness of a regular dime,
Either a bad planchet as stated or a different foreim planchet got in the batch , who knows what the mint workers do to kill time . Also if it fat on one side a thin on the other could be improperly set dies . JMO rzage
Thank You, I believe the planchet was cut to the wrong thickness. The diameter is correct. The incorrect planchet could have caused the die punch to make it thinner on one side? Looks like it was punched twice, looking at the obverse. I see some reeding on the top? Like i said earlier the dime weighed 3 grams on my scale and a normal dime weighed 2 grams. I'm not sure how accurate the scale is. I have no idea what a coin like this goes for. $5.00 range? Higher?
Well. Its actually very common to find a 1979 fat dime. I find one about once every other week. Now if you find one that is thin over 10% then you should get it graded because ive seen some common date ones with 10% thinkness gone and they sold for about 50$
