Hi, I'm new to coin talk. What I want to know is, That I am looking for older bisuness mint sets. And looking on ebay, I have noticed that UNC mint sets without goverment packaging go for a lot less. Question: How much more does goverment packaging add value to the set? Thanks a lot

I'd go with the original packaging as most mint sets sell for less today than when they first sold at the mint. You can buy most for less than $5.

When you go to sell those sets, unless you have the original Mint Box , dealers will pay only about 1/2 half of what the set would normally sell for.

I can not comment to much on U.S Unc set, but I do collect Canadian Unc set. If there are anything like that, Unc set collectors collect the entire set (coins and packaging). A set without its packaging I would consider incomplete or even consider it damaged, and would not be interested in buying it for my collection. So generally fewer people want it without it packaging. The difference the packaging makes depends more on the set, so I am not sure if there is any general guidelines on how much value the packaging will add.
