I have a 1919 German 50 Pfennig coin in excellent condition. There is no wear and great detail on both sides of the coin. As you can see in the pics it does need to be cleaned somewhat... I'll get around to that someday but it won't be in the immediate future. Under the wheat there is the letter A. What is the approxiamte value of this coin, the ones I found online vary wildly and I would love some help! Can anyone give me some background info on this coin as well? Thanks in advance!
Whatever ya do - DON'T clean it !! Don't wipe it, don't rinse it - don't do anything to it. Don't even touch it with your bare fingers - hold it only by the edges. No I'm not saying that because the coin is particularly valuable - it isn't. I'm saying it because that's the proper way to handle and treat coins. The coin was struck at the Berlin mint, they issued 7,173,000 of them and it was struck in aluminum. It appears the coin is uncirculated and the Krause value is listed as $15 - $20.
to CoinTalk. Disregard all the foolish "don't clean it" advice you will get on this forum by reading the dozens of threads that have discussed the topic. February 30, 3060, would be a perfect "someday" IMHO.:rolling:
