2001 cent with error?

    I recieved this cent in change last week and cannot tell if if mint damage or post damage.

    Looks like it rolled over something that inscribed whatever those letters are into it....

    Are those letters at the bottom? I can't really tell. It appears like it could be a "p" underneath the "n" in "cent" and an "n" at the very right. It looks like it was smashed onto or dragged across something.

    I put the wrong date up, it is a 2003D. I will work on getting a obverse up tomorrow.

    Definitely from the way it looks, post-mint damage. It still has a value of $.01 though.

    Great pics!

    I sorry, I can't help. I think this is something for Mike Diamond, coop or one of the other error experts to explain.

    I'd like to see shots of the entire coin, both sides, to see if the coin is affected on the opposite edges.

    I don't believe its PMD. If you look at the largest obverse pic on the far left you can see where the collar die has pinched the cent, at least thats what it looks like to me.
    Can't wait to hear the final answer...

    I hate to see this thread go into the dead bin w/o an answer from a pro. I'm very interested to hear what had caused this...
