Enclosed is a comparison picture between a regular head side of a Roosevelt dime and what I'm guessing is some sort of misprint. The tail side is perfect, Aside from being slightly mis-aligned.(almost un-noticeable) I have e-mailed this picture to a few local coin shops only to have them tell me they have never seen anything of the sort and that it was probably machined down to look like that. It doesn't seem to have any definitive machine marks and I'd like to get as many opinions as possible before taking it for a first hand inspection. More pictures available upon request. Thank you in advance, Mark
Welcome to Coin Talk! It appears to be machined. There is a remnant of Roosevelt's ear still visible. Machine shop tomfoolery!
Definitely looks like post mint damage to me, and imo, nothing done at the mint could cause something like that.
Sounds like an off topic comment to me. Just sayin' or "machined"...? PMD is my call as well on the dime in the OP.
pmd. especially if the tail side is perfect like you say. if the obverse was miss stamped in some way there would surly be weaknesses on the reverse
