    Hi,
I have been collecting wheat pennies for sometime now and recently came across one that might have a mint error, but I am not sure. I am posting picts. but will give a description: It is a 1940 wheat penny, the side with Lincoln looks fine, but the back side looks as if had been partially sheered off. I am thinking that this might be a mint error because I cannot think of any way someone would sheer off the back of a coin. Any input would be much appreciated.
    Thank you,

    Hi Chris,
Welcome to ct! You will definitely have to post better pictures for us to give our opinion. See if your camera has a macro setting for better detail.

Simple enough to run an endmill down the surface of the coin... so I agree, post mint damage. I think you would have to post clearer pictures to entertain more educated opinions.

It's difficult for me to tell from these photos. We definitely need pics with better focus, but it could be a partial split planchet I suppose. I do see what appears to be a weak rim on the side that's "missing" so that could rule out post mint damage.

Impossible to tell much from those photos. Better photos - in focus and without the major glare - would help.
