My father found a coin in a jar today and I was wondering if this is the real 1854 Kellog & Co gold coin. Any help would be much appreciated!

The reeding on the edge looks way too widely spaced to be real. The diameter of a real one should be about 34mm and weigh about 33.4 grams ( over one ounce).

Sorry, but it is definitely a fake, but the strike does look high quality. I'd be interested to see the reverse, the store card/token angle may be correct. FWIW, here's a genuine K & Co. $20:

Once they get their answer... On the one hand, it is in the true nature of service that you do not get paid, not even with thanks. At Christmas with those Red Kettles, remember that at best, the donor and recipient are unknown to each other.

Moreover, while the US Mint makes about 2 or 3 million Proof sets each year and 2 or 3 million Mint sets, Coin World has only 100,000 subscribers and the ANA only 30,000 members. Not everyone with old coins in a jar is interested in any more than hoping to win a SuperLotto with a Rare Coin. Longacre, Saint Guadens, Full Horn, blah, blah, blah.

(Try pointing out the evening star or getting someone to notice how at the quarter Moon or crescent, the sprinkles in the dark region are the tops of mountains. Yada, yada from Yoda Yoda...)

Our passions run deep, but they are our own.
