I have a 1983 p lincoln cent that appears to be struck on zinc. The coin is lighter than a normal cent and appears to be thinner. Any ideas?
Welcome to the forum. Cents made from 1982-on are made from copper coated zinc. Your coin either didn't get plated with copper, or the copper coating was removed after it left the mint. Charlie
The "zinc" 1 Cent Is A Variety Of 1982 , Not 1983 And The Other Variety Is Fully Copper Coin, Also In 1982. The Distiction Between The 2 Varieties Is By Weight. So, If You Have A Lighter Coin Of 1983, It Might Be An "off Metal Strike".
