    Hello-
Trying out my new Epson Perfection 3490 Scanner. With these scans I selected Professional Mode, 24 Bit Color and 400 Resolution. 400 resolution was the best quality I could get and still post the scan on the board.
Let me know what you think for a grade/value for this coin and any pointers on using the scanner (haven't tried the glass method to tilt the coin yet.)
    Thanks

Looks AU+ maybe AU-53/55. looks like there are some dull spots on libertys dress above the shield and the reverse shows light wear on the high points of the eagles feathers. Value, in my opinion is $200-250.

No, YN, i don't think so. I'd safely give it an XF-45. Look at IN GOD WE TRUST. Through that phrase, spotty wear. The OBV is worn past AU standards, IMO, and i'd guess that it was acid dipped. IMO, XF is a good guess.

I did notice the "In God We Trust". I considered that sparce compared to how vibrant the wings are. I just noticed a scratch on the Eagle's shield. My mistake with the grade. Julzboi is right, its no better than EF45, (My bad) and was probably acid dipped. You do know your stuff Julz, my mistake, I shouldn't be too haste in giving grades and values without full detail of all aspects of the coins luster and appearance. And my apology to you Flyers10. Pictures aren't as good as up close and personal views of coins. I'll always try to give my best opinion on grades.

Thanks for looking at the pictures. I was guessing between EF-45 and AU-53. I know it's hard to tell from the pictures but time to go the local coin dealer to check and see if he thinks this coin has been acid dipped.

Well I disagree witht he acid thingy....it doesn't show that anywhere...
I saw XF45...it might get AU50 on a good day.
    Nice coin!!!

    Thanks Speedy-
Still got those Early Bird Submission Certs for NGC. Might send that coin in to see how it rates.

I only agree that the coin could have been in acid is the fact that there is a yellowish tint on the rim of both sides of the coin. This has been noticed on silver coins rubbed or soaked in acid. Just thought I might share. It could just be the image. Oh well, good luck flyers10

YN-thanks for the comment  I'm only 14 and a YN aswell. that gash on the shield makes the rev go to AU from MS. The obv could be MS, without the distinct wear on the dress, flattening of the stars and cheek, and scratches and dings throughout. I'd only pay $100.

Flyers10- Send that baby in! i'm interested to see the grade they give it. IMO, i don't think they'll body bag it.

Speedy- I see some simple porsity on either sides of her head, which look like acid pores to me. ;) But, you may be right.

    Hi,
I also think the coin was dipped. After you've seen enough of them, it is easier to tell. The coin is too white and after being around since 1877, it should have some tarnish or toning. The odds that an AU condition coin was kept this pristine is slim. Dipped, IMHO as well.

    Thanks,
    Bill

I did brighten up the scan a bit with the scanner software. The coin does still have alot of silver luster though.

For whatever it's worth Speedy, any commercial coin dip is a mild acid. I know that's not what you think of when you say acid, but many others do.

    Thanks Doug....your right...when I think of dipping I don't think of acid...
