I was contemplating buying all 2009 Lincoln cents certified because it was a special year for me (I got married and found out I was having a baby). So on ebay I found out the cheapest set I get is for $100 in SP68 PCGS w/ $5 Shipping (no return policy..which is a big negative to me) or B/U by NGC for $30.00 w/ $1.95 and a 7 day return policy. Would it be wiser if I spent the extra money for the long haul or go cheap, pass all together or have a better idea? thanks
I am of no help I am sorry I just read the thread name and thought I'd click. BUMP though! I hope you find out. At my place of work, I buy out all the 2009 pennies because I've heard there are some errors with extra fingers and what not, should be fun to look through them all one day when I find out what I'm looking for! GL
i found a set of pcgs sp 68 for 50 and found a set of pcgs pf 69 for 50 on ebay take your time patience is everything
I like the copper ones packaged by the mint, or the Lincoln Cronicles set. If you want certified be patient you'll find a good deal on ebay, maybe try teletrade.
I say buy neither of these deals. If you want high grade examples, then buy MS coins not SP coins. Granted the specimen coins grades will be higher, but they are FAR more common than even MS-66 graded coins. The BU coins that you mention are not really graded, they are certified as UNC. You would be much better served to buy graded coins if you want TPG graded coins rather than simply certified BU. My first impression from the choices you gave was that someone had bought the coins offered from TV and found out that they got burned and are trying to sell them off now. Just an impression, mind you.
Shoewrecky, Was it a boy or a girl? I’d buy raw 2009 US Mint sets less the 750,000 made(in the $30-$35). Your child will thank you in the future. Why the Mint sets you ask? I can almost guarantee it won’t drop below face value $14.38. The recession of 2009 caused all mintage to be very low. The nickels and dimes already are trading at a nice premium. Now back to the 8 special Lincolns in set they are(Bronze, TYPE, KEY Coin) Bronze: Content same as pre WWII easy to identify 3.1 grams. Key Coin: Satin finish coins about 5 million issued, between 2005-2010 will not be issued in 2011. Less than 750,000 bronze coins made. This is less than the 1931-S . Type coin: Copper Uncirculated and you have four different ones in this set. The Lincoln is the number one coin collected in the USA. How much would you price a single Lincoln in five years from now half the price of a 1931-S? Even 10 percent of the 31-s in Good the set would be worth a $100.
Holz, I had a little boy..well not so little that is not a bad idea, I have 2 already so why not get a couple more
congrats on the baby boy, shrek!! I didn't know (I don't think I did, anyways). I hope all are well, and that you guys enjoyed your first Christmas together
