Yeah, but people die and with no heirs, so stuff like this gets unclaimed. What if a person in the military went over seas and did not have this unit paid up/forgot about it, etc... Stuff happens and people do forget. While some of us wouldn't leave extremely valuables in a storage unit, there are others who obviously do.
This doesn't sound like a good way to turn a few hundred bucks into a few thousand bucks, but it sure does sound like a hell of a good time! If i ever did decide to do this i would not spend any more than 80 to 100 dollars though.
Quite a few here do just that, they just call them safe deposit boxes. I'm sure some will argue the security factor is different, but when was the last time you ever heard of someone's storage unit getting broke into? Guy
It happens more time.s then you think especially at places like public storage where the wall,s between Unit,s don,t go all the way up, you could simply steal from the neighboring unit and do it with complete Anonymity, It,s a scary thought i got my stuff out of there when i saw the lack of security not that i kept Allot of valuables in there but some things are just to big for a safety deposit box!!
I went through the storage auction phase last summer. I purchased about 10 or so. I had to stop, because more and more people started showing up to the auctions, and the same guy would pay any amount. I mean literally, he would walk away at the end of the day with EVERY single unit, at ridiculous prices. As far as the ones I had won, I can say I that the amounts I paid were lower than the value of the stuff in them. The problem is actually storing the junk yourself and dealing with selling it. One unit stood out, as it had boxes of christmas stuff in them. There were a lot of high end crystal ornaments and things like that. If someone asked me if it is a good idea though, I would say no.
I saw the show. The collection that guy found was a lot of junk silver, and a bunch of bullion, brown ikes, ect. Nothing spectacular, but a good grab indeed for four hundred bucks.
No because no one would watch week after week of shows where nothing interesting happened or was found.
A true reality show would be refreshing, Pawn stars was a big hit but i rarely watch it Anymore just because i know that in essence it,s fake ;(
Hardcore pawn seems to be much more realistic then Pawn Stars. However, it still isn't good lol. That shop is a few miles from my house. On the other side of the tracks.
