Your probably wondering about my obsession with V nickels. Here is a list of reasons to collect them: 1. There is an absolutely beautiful figure on the coin. 2. In mint state, they can be obtained without much money(high end mint state cost more money) 3. Proof can be obtained for a couple hundred bucks too. 4. The coins have an interesting history with the 1883 Cent/No Cents varieties.( The No Cents varieties can be bought in mint state cheaply. 5. They were on of my first ebay coins I bought of there. 6. There not an impossibly long series loaded with varieties/mintmarks. 7. Even type crappy ones can be bought for a buck or so.
Those are a list of very good pros for the coin. The V Nickel is one of my favorites, and when toned, they can really be something. (But I wouldn't mind owning a blast white example either) Now, there is one big con with this series. 1. If you don't have 7 digit dollar amounts in your bank account, you will never complete the set.
It was an illegal issue that under modern rules would be liable to confiscation. One shouldn't worry about not having one to complete a V nickel collection anymore than not having a 1964-D to complete a Peace dollar collection.
As the self-professed "god of the V nickels!" with many good reasons for collecting this series and being the author of many threads on the subject here on CT, it occurs to me that I have yet to ever see you post pics of your V nickel collection for us to behold. Could you treat us to some examples of your V nickels going forward?
We'll be waiting for the pics. So what you are saying is that you don't have one V Nickel photographed?
if they're NGC consider putting them in a registry set (it's free), I think PCGS has a similar feature. If you're unfamiliar with it, it's pretty much an online directory of your own collection, and it ranks you against other sets. If they're raw disregard this comment because it will be irrelevant, lol.
