If you are looking for the basic old coins like wheat cents, or just plain old currency still struk today where is the best place to find it?
What good things have you found in you or your relitave's house?

I found 10 wheat cents and some SBA's lying around in containers in my basement, and my dad gave me a 1974 IKE dollar and discontinued state quarters.

    Open for all opinions.

I can still remember walking into my mom's closet couple of years ago and finding a jar with old coins in it. Lots of wheats, talked to mom and I dumped them out and saw a bison nickel a standing liberty quarter (both no dates)-worthless to some, but priceless to me...that's when I decided to be a coin collector. A lot of fun-

Great finds! Your certainly on your way. This is one of the greatest hobbies in the world.

The other day I was getting change at a supermarket and found a 1942 Canadian penny in my change... really nice condition!!! Can find great stuff in pocket change.

Best advice I can give is always read as much as you can, always read the forums (best place for information from those in the know)... and always be gratefull to Grandpa... I've learned some of the greatest things from my Grandfather.

    Good luck!

There really is no "best" place. Searching rolls is often productive but then so is watching your pocket change. Bottom line, anywhere and everywhere is a good place to look.

    New question:
What was the best coin you found "lying around?"

I don't think there is really a best place to look for old coins or currency. I use to go to banks and buy $50 bags of pennies and find lots of great stuff but that was way, way back. The last time I did that was a few years ago and found nothing. My son lives in Tennesee and tells me he checks out banks there in small towns the same way and finds nothing. I've worn out my welcome with everyone I know by constantly asking if they have any old coins laying around. I have been checking out flea markets, garage and yard sales, estate sales and it appears I've found better in just regular pocket change. The tremendous increase in coin collecting lately has made finding anything really difficult. The increase in coin collecting is noticeable around here because we now have a coin show in the area about every weekend. However, got to keep looking.
