Hey guys... thought I'd throw down a little "grade me" on a popular favorite - the 1928 Peace dollar. What grade do you assign to this little sweetheart ?

Let the good times roll ! :D

That's a nice one, looks like it could go 65

    I'm split between 63 and 64.
I like the strike, but it has a few marks.

    Agree completely!

    Although I really want to say 65, I can't. :D
The "teeth mark" spots on the coin to the far left on the obverse interest me. (But of course can only hurt the coin)
There are also two marks on the obverse near the eyes, light marks as they may be, they are somewhat distracting. The rest of the coin really doesn't exhibit that many more distracting or more noticeable marks. The only thing that comes close is on the reverse from the "P" to the "R" in PLURIBUS.

64 to 65...depends on what they take off for that rim hit on the left of the obv.
    Nice coin.

I agree, and I'm not kidding. There appears to be light wear on both sides.

Did some reading and looking at heritage - I will say 65. It could be the nice pictures, but this coin is a whole lot nicer looking than the 64's I looked at on heritage. The first page I read mentioned the weak strike characteristics and lack of luster on the 1928 peace dollar.

The problem with the Peace Dollars, after 1921, to me, are those weak strikes that are out there. And distinguishing wear from toning over an internet photo.. Yay internet!

I'm looking at the hair over her ear and the "PEACE" on the back. Those push me to the AU camp. The "bite marks" to the left of her mouth also don't help any. Even if those are legit bag marks, I do not believe bag marks can be ignored on coins.

    Ok. What'd she grade?

    Yep, it's a bag mark.

All agree. I can't imagine anyone saying they should be ignored.

ANACS gave this one an MS61 (older blue label).

Possible "gradeflation" upgrade if one were to crack it out?

So what would you grade it if it wasn't in a holder 900fine?

Swing and a miss. :) Not the first time and won't be the last time. :) I see a few bag marks on the obverse and more on the reverse mainly on the rays - but some of those 64's I looked at on heritage seemed to have more noticable bag marks. Oh well - live and learn.

After close examination i would have to agree with Doug there appears to be ware on
Both sides ever so slight, seems to be in the gray area between A/U and M/S
