Do you go to the same banks daily? I'm just wondering because I think I'd feel odd about doing that. Please can you sugar-coat your results of those 60 rolls as I'm jealous.

I go to different banks and sort through the loose ones that they have. I usually hit each bank up once a month. I have several mid-size towns within 30 miles of my base location that I try to work through. My list of good banks is dwindling though, starting to find several tellers who pull silver.

1 box of halves plus two rolls from the tray today. Nothing. The local BofA here will order boxes of halves whenever I want though. I'll keep looking.

Best find in a long time: Had the day off and a little shopping to do so I hit a few banks and a couple stores. (something I have not done much lately as been really scarce and not worth the time)

    1st bank $2 - 1 1966
    2nd bank $18 - 1 1965
    3nd bank none
    4th bank none
    5th bank $5.50 - 1 1979S, 2 1968, 2 1969, and a 1986 Commemorative (The one Bob has found 6 of but my first)
    1st store $2 - nothing
    6th bank - $3 - nothing
2nd store $320 in CWR to which I was told they had already been searched. My son just went through them and found:
    29 40%, 1 1944, 2 1952

So thinking my luck was changing, I doubled back to go get a box of halves....alas, shutout number 13 hahaha.

Anyway, best day in a long time and my son had a lot of fun opening the rolls. Also, biggest find of CWR that was not a dump in forever!

This is my first time comming through this thread, quick question...Do you just go up to a teller at a bank and exchange your paper money for a bunch of rolls they have? Then the next day come and change it back to paper or....hit me with a private message.

what I do is..at work there is backup change for the cash register so I check that and the cash register..

I've found tons of stuff as I have worked there for over half a decade...OOOBS of wheat pennies plenty in good condition..OOOBS of 2009 and 2010 pennies plenty in gooood condition. I collect Minnesota and Wisconsin state quarters in hopes to have someone check them out to see if they are error coins. I have ooobs of star $2 notes one thats a red stamp.

I cracked a roll of nickels to put in the register less than a week ago and got another buffalo nickel woop, no mint date though but it's still neat to look at. Old quarters and dimes and halfs aswell..check out my only thread I started if you want to see some pix.

I'm curious what you mean about a Store that had halves. What store(s) do you go to and get that many half dollars? You can PM if you'd rather not say, I just can't think of a store that would have a lot of them except a grocery store.

It's been a long time since I've posted. Up here things have gone dry. I'm struggling to find any CWR or loose halves at banks and there is no way to buy the bags from the machines that every bank seems to have now.

The last 22 boxes I've done have resulted in 4-40%. Not sure how many in a row were skunks but I do know that the last 4 have bene skunks

For those of you that are numbers guys, here's some stats I have from a 6 month stint in penny searching:

Click it to enlarge. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Disregard the numbers on the x-axis; the ordering is chronological from 1909-1958 including every mintmark which is 138 total 'points' on the lines. Pretty cool how my ratios matchup with those of actual mintages except for a couple anomalies (like the 1943 steel penny which obviously saw mass hoarding)

    Nice find!

I'm curious about what stores you find CWR. I've asked at grocery stores and some convenient stores but have had no luck in getting any halves.

I cracked a roll of nickels at work and didn't find anything I wanted to keep. I then cracked a roll of pennies and then about 40 some cents through of nothing neat I popped out a 1909 wheat :D I'm not 100% but that might be my only 1909 wheatie :D

Cashed in some halves while up here... the banks are bone dry. Found 3 rolls of UNC bicentennials at one branch, and that's it. Got two boxes of dimes, found one silver dime in the first, while searching as the GF was driving. Hard to see, but there may be a couple I missed. The other box will have to wait for some other time (Sunday night?) to be opened.

Worth noting I saw some guy walk out with 4 (!) boxes of cents while dumping halves. Bet that fellow is a Ryedale kinda guy.

Just went through one and a half boxes of halves. Found one full roll of uncirculated 2003-P (NIFC). Also found 3 US-mint wrapped rolls! They were 2007D, 2008P, and 2008D. Plus, the end coins are beautifully toned. In all, 81 NIFC's! Also found a couple 1996P with die cracks from tip of bust going between the '19' to the edge of the coin. No silver but I'm pretty happy about these.

Hey Robbudo what colors did the end coins tone on the mint wrapped rolls? I ask because yesterday I got two 2005 mint rolls from the bank and the end coins turned a dark golden color.

Thanks, and hope everyone is having a Merry Christmas!

Penny Fanatic - they are toned a golden yellow. I'm not a fan on toning, but these are pretty nice. These are from 2007 & 2008, so maybe it would turn your dark golden color in 2 or 3 more years. I'm not sure what I should do with these rolls, open them up and look for errors or sell them for $17 on the bay.

Funny thing how these mint wrapped rolls end up in the bank, huh? I know the mint doesn't sell them for face either.

I got ten rolls of pennies to search from my parents as a Christmas gift and I found three wheat pennies out of the ten rolls, one of them was a 1918s

I don't know whether that is a good thing for you or not but it seems like at work I crack a wheat penny every other time! I bet when I buy my own rolls for the first time tomorrow I wont find as many! (hope not :c)
