I don't collect foreign coins but happened to come across a 1939D 2 Reichmark. The obverse of the coin says "Paul von hfndenburg" 1847-1934. The double die is on the name and is so strong it is visible to the naked eye. Does anyone have info on this coin and the possible value? Thanks!

Really need to see a pic. There's all kinds of doubling, some are errors and others are just a result of die deterioration.

I'll work on posting a pic but in the mean time, is this coin known to have a DD error? How common is this coin?

Most that I've seen are machine doubling, not doubled die errors. There's an online seller that has them for $8.95.

Wait until a couple of the main foreign coin guys get on and they'll give you a more accurate value once you get pics posted.

The photos are pretty blurry but that does in fact look like a doubleD die.

    Looks good to me!

Appears one in BU is about $55, so you can value your's accordingly.

    Nice one!

Well, for my doubleD die coin I don't have a good way of taking pictures...basically a digital camera aimed through a 10x loupe. What are some good instruments to purchase that will allow me to take perfect pics?

The pics are a little shakey.... a tripod or camera support would help. Also shooting dead-on rather than at an angle will give you better depth of field (a deeper area of focus).

Use the search function at the top of the page, there's been a lot of excellent threads by members who posted their coin photography techniques.

Even with the poor pics I'm going with triple...

    Congrats!

It's a great looking double!! I'd keep it, even if you don't collect foreign a may be a good trading item down the road.
