I am testing a theory this year that there will be fewer buyers on eBay auctions that end on or close to Christmas because people are distracted with family things. I'm just bidding on a bunch of things to see if I get better deals than usual. Do you think this will pay off, or will I still get outbid at the last minute on Christmas day?
I dunno...there are so many people that circumvent the natural auction process by using those electronic bidding programs, and they dont have to lift a finger.
It depends on what you are bidding on. If you are bidding on something that is in high demand, then you will get outbid on the holidays just like you would on a other regular day. If it's an item that not as high in demand, then you might have a chance of winning the auction if ebay traffic for that particular item is slow or non-existent during the holidays. So far for me, bidding during this upcoming Christmas holiday has not worked out for me but it is still too early. I got outbid on a silver art bar today but I am looking at other auctions that I am interested in bidding in.
Keep in mind that even though you might have a slightly smaller crowd of typical bidders who will be away with family, you still have many who may not celebrate the holiday and will be on ebay like any other day... plus you'll have an increased number of people who recognize the potential for good deals and will be hunting down coins at good prices just like you. It's worth a shot, place some bids and see what happens. I know I'll be doing that :smile
Sometimes, being outbid is a true blessing . Becoming a successful auction bidder takes great effort and knowledge , as well as patience , which for many collectors goes against their nature. It's unfortunate, but sites such as EBAY are prey to individuals using these techniques to steal an item out from under you at the very last seconds of bidding.
It might work. I just won a few lots at Heritage for less than 1/3 what they should have sold for, and thats being conservative. Maybe people have spent all their money so things will be cheap for a few weeks. Guy
I have one item that I will be bidding on tomorrow (assuming I don't forget) I also have an item in the next Heritage auction that I want. I hope that everyone spends their money for Christmas so that it goes cheap. I think we all hope that will happen but most likely there will little difference tomorrow or in coming weeks.
