Hello Folks. New to the forum. I wish I had a better scan but I purchased a 37-D 3 legger. Question is this. I purchased it from a reputable business who's been legendary in the industry where I live. The Coin has what I can best describe as a "dent", or a indentation in the metal on the reverse. Was wondering how badly you thought this affected it's value. Overall it's a nice coin, not cleaned, not whizzed, not tampered, however obviously damaged slightly.

Thanks, and I look forward to getting to know you all.

As mentioned in the initial post....I wish I had a better scan. It is the small dent you can see in the top right corner

We will need a better image (preferably a photo) to be able to tell you much.

Can you take the coin out of the holder and get a better image of it? In focus would help.

That is the best I have. I am looking at it on here also I can clearly see the small indentation as described, unsure why others cannot

I can see the dent alright. The reason I requested better images is so I can look for die diagnostics to determine if your coin is a genuine 3-Legged Buffalo or not. I cannot see those diagnostics in the blurry image.

It's not a question of authenticity. I know where it was purchased and what it is. I simply was curious as to opinions of the value affects of the blemish

From what I can see - the reflection at the 2 o'clock position would certainly come back as damaged if it were graded. value of it is what you paid or what someone else will pay, very subjective.

Here is mine which coincidently I just sent in to NGC for authentication and details grading.

what kind of details does it have and what did you pay for it if you don't mind me asking?

Yes, the rim ding appears to be significant, but it can not be told if it affects just the obverse edge or also affects the perpendicular edge or reverse. The 3 leg 37-D is a very popular coin, but isn't considered rare by most, so the ding damage could involve a big difference in value, hard to say really. Even though you trust the opinion of the seller, it does you no harm to at least compare markers closely as there are many counterfeits, so good and some poor. You can search 3-leg buffalo or similar in the search box above. Here is an older thread you might find interesting.

^^^^^ I just looked at the pics and I am going to say that E Pluribus is too far away from the back of the buffalo. Going way out on a limb to say not genuine........ Everything else looked good. okay back to reading page 2

Jim - after reading that thread, I am confused more than ever. I thought I had done the diagnostics enough to satisfy that the coin I posted above is genuine. Now I am not so sure. I might have the eplurbis thing backwards. I just submitted the above coin to NGC for authentication. Not that it matters now, but could you take a look at the photos I posted and tell me what you think and why?

    Thanks!

The rim damage does not show on the other side.
