Picked this up for a song, hope its real, I am no grader but would guess maybe somewhere in the "fine" area KM# 10
Have you checked the weight? Should be in the range 26.9568 to 27.25 grams. The calligraphy looks good, and I don't see any of the other usual clues to fakery.
Gonna check weight tomorrow-work at the Post Office and we have nice scales lol I think it was worth the ten bucks also die is rotated almost to a medallic position-dont know if that is normal
Almost is definitely not normal. Krause doesn't mention whether Hong Kong coins are usually coin-orientated or medal-oriented. However, the 1960 dollar in my One Per collection is in medal orientation.
It's very hard to tell if it is real or not from the photo but you should be aware that there is indeed fakes of this coin type out there courtesy of China. Does it weigh in at the right weight? Does the surface catch the print on your fingertips? The Queen Victoria Hong Kong dollar is one of the few coins on my hit list that has so far eluded my collection. The ones I have come across so far have either been too expensive or have caught me at a time when i've been scraping the bottom of the barrel for funds. I hope that your one is real....congratulations! If you don't mind me asking....what did you pay? Ian
Well Ian, it was only $10.50 so I am not too upset and someday I will get the real deal-can I interest you in this one? Thanks , Ed
