I was on Craigslist found an interesting ad (link) is this a good price and does it seem like a good set not one produce by something like the Franklin Mint? The Certificate of Authenticity is what is making me think it is from like one of the HOme shoping Networks or the Franklin mint but then if they are the coins then they are the coins as long as they have not been altered like painted or something. Just need the advice.
I'd say so-so. You can get the complete BU 50 coin set on Ebay for $20-25 and some nice cherry wood display cases for about the same price.
Hmmmm, why go just for the 50 coin set, they can be mixed P and D mints. Why not get the complete P and D set?
Good Point I did not even think of mint marks, i have one circulated and a near completed second circulated one but i want to get an uncirculated one or even a proof one before the prices are ridiculous. I'll probably get rid of one of the circulated ones. Would it be cheaper to gather the individual coins or just buy one that is already completed?
I don't think you will live long enough for the price to ever get ridiculous. There are millions upon millions of uncirculated State Quarter sets around.
Well, someone did spend their money gathering all those circulated (he probably bought one roll of each type from each mint). On ebay they fetch around $40, but that is understandable as it is $25 face value and $15 premium for it being unc/BU. If I were you I would get one as the prices for Unc P and D sets will eventually rise with the new America the Beautiful Quarters Program. If you start collecting the quarters yourself and stick them into a folder/album, chances are that they won't grade MS as they have been circulated. The reason the sellers demand premium for the sets is because the rolls or bags of unc quarters will eventually get harder and harder to find. I myself am considering to order a unc P and D set of DC and territories. Go for it.
Here's a reasonable set http://cgi.ebay.com/1999-2009-P-D-State-Territorials-Quarter-Set-112-coins-/170554462171 And it will only cost you $32. -LTB
Get a box of quarter rolls from your bank, go through them, and pull out the best condition ones you can find. With just some time, you are likely to get a full set (P or D depending where you live) at face value.
Companies such as HSN contracted out to have sets of these collections put together from 1000 count Statehood Quarter Mint bags. You will find that all the common mint mark P's & D's will be the coins included in these sets. Sure enough, they are uncirculated, but still have bag marks are not exactly hand picked cream of the crop. Not sure if that is the famous *Cherrywood* display case or not, looks like it in the images. These were sold from $89 & up, so $75 would be adequate for what you get.
In my book the value of an item is not determined by what the seller paid for it. Why should I overpay just because the seller overpaid?
Hey guys, nobody has mentioned the fact that it is CASH ONLY and deliveries are not available. I wouldn't ever deal on Craigslist to being with, but that just sounds weird to me. On top of that, the price is not great either.
