I received my first Certified coin today from Northeast and not even three minutes after I got it I was on the phone with them. Five minutes after that I was back at the post office sending it back. I'm sure its not there fault but the holder was cracked on the left side and it was coming apart/opened. Chris is the guy I talked to was very helpful and understanding. I'm not sure what's going to happen now. I still want the coin, but I would like the holder replaced. Any ideas what I can expect?
Let them know what you'd like to see happen. For instance - you'd like to keep the coin but want it put in a new slab. I'd bet that's just what you'd get
I got an email back from Mr Chris and he is going to have it put in a new holder! Are the holders that PCGS and NGC use really fragile? It seemed like the holder was pretty thin.
The plastic of the holders is thin but it is tough. It is not indestructible though. I don't know how it was packaged when it was shipped to you buy I know a lot of slabs that have been shipped in safe-t-mailers or in padded envelopes have been a lot less indestructible than the post office equipment used to process them.
Now is a rough time to have anything shipped. The holidays put a hugh demand on the post offices and things get crunched. I'm not saying thats what happened just a good possibility around the holidays. I have a scratched one I have been meaning to get reslabbed but have yet to send it in.
