Managed to pick up another Ducato, this time in Milano. As Doug says these later examples are more difficult to get hold of I hope I did well again (on Ducats at least).

Alvise IV Mocenigo, 1763-1778. Zecchino, AV 3,51 g. Tipo solito. Paolucci 13. Friedberg 1421.Spl

This one bothers me somewhat as the design is different than others of the same type.

If I may ask - where are you buying these ?

Never heard of them- not that that means anything as I'm sure there are plenty of European sellers I've never heard of. Do they have a return policy ? I don't read Italian.

Closely compare the coin you bought to the Baldwin coin, you'll see what I mean.

I have won it, not paid for it. If you are sure its not bona fide, I'll just ask for them to run it past their senior numismatist and take it from there.......j

I'm not certain of anything. I can only comment on what I see which is what I have done. The thing is, what I see definitely makes me suspsicious. Enough so that I would never buy the coin.

Just ran it by Clark Smith (Coinvault) and he testifies that the coin is good. There are a whole range of variations on this one type/date and this is to be expected.

Coinvault also testifies that the Company in question has a very high reputation. The coin is bona fide, end of!

The descriptor for ducat on my coin changed to DVCA at exactly right historical period, next, right number of stars for this coin (16), my one is damaged but you can see where it was, correct spacing. Next, the number of points on the stars, this specific coin must have 5 pointed stars, not six which was associated with the previous incumbent. My one has the five pointed stars.
