Hello Everyone and Happy Holidays, I hope everyone is enjoying their Supper Saturday!!!! I love NOLA Morgans my Fave that I've acquired so far is a 1883 65 pl that has great target toning that is blue\ purple. It is very bold at the top of the reserve and even has a crescent shape to it no pun intended . If I can ever figure out how to take a decent picture I'll post one of it. My second fave is my 1884 64 star. The reserve is so colorful that it could be used in a kaleidoscope. If you've got love for the NOLA post your fave or give a good description. Best wishes to everyone and this site rocks faces. Southern_Style
By NOLA i assume your talking about New Orleans, Lousiana morgans? If so i like them to point, but they can be a pain as far as grading goes...
You are correct NOLA is short hand for New Orleans aka the crescent city, and I totally agree it is hard to find them in high grades. I think that adds a little bit to the collecting of them.
Not the best but here's an 1886-O in ANACS AU-55. Wish it would have graded better, but you cant change an AU coin into MS...
The only drawback to the NO Morgans is that so many had very weak strikes with mushy, central details. I sure wish they all had strikes like the 81-S! Here is one of my favorites. Chris
Here are some of my higher grade New Orleans Morgans. I only need 1893, 1895, & 1903 to complete my NOLA set!
Beautiful coins coinsnake! What is a likely explanation for the toning stripe on the reverse of the 81 O? I think it looks cool.
Thank you! I believe it is 'tab toning' from an older style of album. It may have damage on the reverse from improper storage, but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the blues & orange on the obverse. The picture is very true to color as in hand.
It looks like tab toning to me, too! It may have been in a cardboard holder that was distributed in some special promotion many eons ago. Chris
I always thought the stripe on the back (I've seen it most common on peace dollars) were where someone had taped it on to a sheet of paper or poster board...?
