Has anyone seen rolls or any quantities of the 2006 Silver Eagle? I have examined about 200 Coins from the original Green Box and all seem dull and bag marked. I would be hard to find a MS68 or MS69. Has any one else had this experience, or was trhis just a bad box? Any comments really appreciated.
i just opened a sealed roll and the top one was almost perfect, the ones under have some small contact marks from being on top of each other but look good overall
Haven't looked through as many as you campro, but of the ones I've seen, they seem to be on par with the coins in past years. For the type of coin that they are, really quite good in appearance.
Welcome Campro :thumb: can I ask if by any chance you have a scan or 2 you can share with us? De Orc :kewl:
Just spreading my pic around so every one can see the Poor quality on the SAE's this year Thanks for Looking
From the pic it looks like a very matt finish to it, I think I might just have to get one so I can see for myself De Orc Ps is it my eye's or is the serface pitted in places?
Ouch!Thats not what I would call a nice coin.If most of the '06s are like this,it could turn ugly for the mint. You would have to think this could have a ripple effect on them next year when it comes time to order ASE's.
Yes, some of that speckling is also associated with pitting of the surface. Out of 10 rolls i have 17 Coins that looked to be MS 69. All the rest are crap.
take a look at the us mint video on their website and watch how they load eagles into the tubes and you will see why they get banged up!
I do love a near perfect SE, but people need to remember that these are bullion coins. Consider how the old Ike dollars looked when they came from the bank - heavy bagmarks and gouges. The SEs look pretty good considering what they are. The fact that ANY grade MS69 is a testament to the Mint's handling of these coins.
I got mine today and it seems to be decent quality but there are some miniscule marks near the right wrist, thigh and on the sun. These were not visible when I was in the store and I only noticed them after taking this close-up.I might take it back for exchange.
Did the store promise a certain grade? If not, I would be embarassed to bring it back. It is an ounce of silver bullion coin, in blazing Mint State no less, not a slabbed MS70 collectors item. Where has it been promised that SEs will be MS69 or better? I think people are getting a bit spoiled and unresonable in their expectations. The Mint produces the SE without the normal bag marks and such as a normal business strike would have, but to expect it to be perfect is another thing. If someone wants ot pay a premium for a higher grade that is another story.
I received my 2006 ASEs and they are dinged up as pointed out by others. But they were purchased as bullion coins, not as high grade mint state coins, so it's tough to complain. But this and similar threads suggests there might be fewer MS69 coins this year so it might pay to buy a few before the "shortage" becomes more apparent.
I picked up two from my local coin dealer. Both have two small shiny spots (luster marks?) between the sun's rays, in the same location on both coins. They are easily noticed, compared to the matte finish of the field. The rest of the coin is quite nice. I've never seen this on any of my other Silver Eagles.
