I can't tell if this is PMD or not, but this quarter I found in my husband's pocket change caught my eye. I don't have a camera that will take microscopic pictures so I scanned these hoping they will suffice. As far as I can tell the rim of the quarter is only effected on either side of the quarter and not raised or concaved or anything. You will notice the O in WISDOM on the reverse is still perfectly stamped. This crease is on equal sides of the quarter and along the exact same linear path...please help me? Thank you so much!

The marks on both sides must be either raised or recessed. Whether it was caused during striking or is PMD, doesn't make any difference. I'm wondering if the dies didn't clash while some foreign object was between them. Note that the "O" of WISDOM is nearer the end where it is thinnest and on the "B" of LIBERTY where it is thicker. The reason the "O" would show completely may be because the foreign object was so thin that it couldn't block that portion of the letter out completely like it did on the "B".

Okay. Thanks for the correction in terminology. I don't understand this coin. I don't know what to make of it...oh well. Hopefully I get answers soon. :)

This is PMD. It is a cut from a tin snip or some other scissors style tool.

I agree someone damaged the coin with snips.

I just noticed the crease on the obverse stops abruptly upon meeting the end of the ribbon past the O. If this is a scissor like PMD error how could this be possible? I know I might be making a big deal about this but is it possible that the crease was on this coin before it was died?
