    Hey folks,

I just picked up these 2 toned morgans today. Sorry about the photo quality, I used my phone. I really couldn't lose for the price, but could I hear a couple of estimates of what someone might pay for these? Thank you.

I wouldnt go much over $45 each, rather common dates, and a few scratches on the first one along with some acne... Not a bad find, unless you paid more than $50 each...

that 86 looks AT but anyway id say the 50$ range for each. even tho i look for toners sometimes i try not to pay more then 40-50 for morgans. gotten some nice ones for 30 but i dont think that will ever happen again.

Hard to judge from the pictures and I can't guestimate grade but if the 1885-O is unc and NT which I believe it may be then I would say as maybe an MS63 coin it would sell for around $100 to $125 if graded. The toning looks a bit off to me but it doesn't scream AT. The toning on the reverse of the 1886 also looks a bit odd but it may be just the image but again I think the coin is probably NT and it looks Unc MS64ish so I would value it at around the same as the other but maybe a bit more say $125+ if graded. I don't think the previous $50 to $75 guestimate for raw examples are that far off especially since we can't see the coins in hand. :)

Thanks for all the replies folks. Let me ask you this. On the first one (1885) right above the ear is the hair without defining lines. It is possible that still is UNC? Just a bad strike or grease filled die or something? The reverse looks unc, but that part of the hair there makes me wonder. I am not a morgan guy!
Also, these pictures are terrible. They were done with my camera phone, so the colors are off a little. I am pretty confident they are both NT however.

Many, but not all, New Orleans Morgans are known for a weak strike. You will often see them without the details of the ear, the hair over the ear and along the forehead and temple as well as the eagle's breast, legs and talons. It does not take away from the grade.

Just to give you an idea on what the 1885-O will grade, i just picked up an 1886-O from ANACS today and it came back as AU-55 cleaned (which i knew it was cleaned not sure i agree with the 55, but...). Here's the pics for comparison:

Neither of these coins appear to be bag toned to me, which, for Morgans, always makes me suspect. I don't see anything that screams AT, but would likely wait for a no-brainer bag toned example because they are not uncommon (although I don't know if these dates are available from bags).
