Well, I had been watching this Otacilia Severa coin from one person for a few days, and I got her. Very cheaply I might add. I did get her on ebay, so if I sniped it from anyone here, my apologies. After I won it so inexpensively, I took a look and found one of Herennia Etruscilla, another Empress I had wanted a coin of for a while, so I bid on that too, and also won it very cheaply. So I now have two new ladies to wait for. Both with PUDICITIA AUG reverses. One standing one sitting. I will show you all the pics I have so far. Let me know what you think. I really love this Otacilia Severa Antoninianus, I wanted one with the title that had 'MARCIA' written out instead of just 'M' I also wanted one with good detail of what looks like crosshatching on the braid on the back of her head(clearly visible in the second picture of the obverse only) and this one has both! and for half the price of most the ones I see with far less detail, and a far less beautiful portrait. The Herennia one is very nice and round, and has a pretty good portrait. Now I have the whole family of both Philip I and Decius, minus only Hostilian. Nice! :thumb: I had the Otacilia Severa bookmarked but missed the end of the auction because I had company and forgot about it.
Nice coins rex, that Otacilia is real nice even with the cracked flan. Nice reverse. The Herennia is nice, the copper spot on the reverse though would bug me. Im trying to stay away from those types with the silvers with those copper spots unless the price is real right. Im just surprised by all the female ancient coins being posted as of late. Super cool.
Well the price was real right for both heh.... there was a pretty decent 'GEN ILLYRICI' reverse of Emperor Decius that sold for just $13. something! I would have bid on it but I didn't see it in time. I'll get better pics when I have them, but you can see the detail on the hair of Otacilia, which is a trait I have been looking for for a while. As far as copper spots, as long as it is an external thing on the surface of the coin from something else, and not copper poking through from within, then they don't bother me too much heh, as long as it doesnt obscure the devices too much. Remind me... what did Pudicitia represent again?
I thought you might know, having bought a nice one with her on the reverse yourself Oh and to EDIT.... I previously posted that the Herennius Etruscilla had Pudicitia seated on the reverse, but I had it the other way around, that is the Otacilia Severa one. here is the proper info for the Herennia Etruscilla coin: -------------------------------- Herennia Etruscilla, Wife of Emperor Decius, Mother of Herennius Etruscus AR Antoninianus, Rome Mint obv: HER ETRUSCILLA AUG - Draped bust right, seated on crescent. rev: PUDICITIA AUG - Pudicitia standing left holding scepter and drawing veil from her face. ---------------------------------
Herennia Etruscilla - Pudicitia - AR Antoninianus A couple of the photos of the reverse are off-color. The paper behind the coin is white. Also the green stuff on the reverse is only on the surface. -------------------------------- Herennia Etruscilla, Wife of Emperor Decius, Mother of Herennius Etruscus AR Antoninianus, Rome Mint obv: HER ETRUSCILLA AUG - Draped bust right, seated on crescent. rev: PUDICITIA AUG - Pudicitia standing left holding scepter and drawing veil from her face. ---------------------------------
Marcia Otacilia Severa - Pudicitia - AR Antoninianus This coin sure is a beauty, some of the photos are off color, but look at the detail on the braid at the back of her head, you can see the criss-crossing, especially in the last two photos in this post... beautiful. -------------------------- Empress Marcia Otacilia Severa, Wife of Emperor Philip I AR Antoninianus, Rome Mint obv: MARCIA OTACIL SEVERA AUG- Draped bust right, seated on crescent. rev: PUDICITIA AUG - Pudicitia seated facing left, removing veil from face and holding sceptre. --------------------------- Note the detail on the braid at back of her head in the last two photos of this post, you can see the braiding.

Even with these pics that green would annoy me alot. The Otacilia is nice. Nice details on both sides.
It's slightly annoying, I will take new and better photos eventually, but for now, these get across the detail just fine..... I wanted to show as many angles as I could.... My goal was to capture that 'crosshatch' looking braiding on the back of Otacilia's head... and I managed to - particularly well in the last two photos of my first post of the new obverse Otacilia Severa pics. My camera has more trouble with the color at certain angles with the flourescent lighting I have been using temporarily.
