What would you grade this 1953-S silver quarter? It's in an older NGC slab, and i think it's over graded personally, but not sure...
I would grade it AMV- About Melt Value. Seriously though, the photos aren't really sharp enough. Somewhere in the lower VF range?
Yeah pics are bad, but the coin isnt very impressive, but would you believe me if i told you it was an MS grade?
Yes, that looks to be an MS grade, and likely a fairly high grade, but that is mostly a guess with those pictures.
Those pix still leave a bit to be desired, but I cannot find a nick on it. Eye appeal is not top of the scale, but the rest is. Quarters are not my area, but I would guess 66?
It's a clean coin as far as nicks and what not go, but it seems to have a residue from a fire or something on it...? I'm not sure it's toning. But when i found it at the flea market i had to look pretty good at it to even be able to tell what it was. I got it at a good pice ($4.75) but not sure i could give it away the way the residue or toning is on it... It's graded at MS-65 from NGC. Is it worth sending it back in to be re-evaluated for a possiable 66?
Even if we are right, you are going to spent $20+ in shipping to get a coin worth $20 more than the 65 you have now. i.e., you are going to lose even if you get it graded for free.
Kind of what i was thinking, not worth it, but whats the price difference between 65 and 66? I cant seem to find the price of a 66 anywhere... I think i'll probably just hold on to it just the way it is.

Ok instead of posting a new thread, i figured i just post some pics and ask your opinion of the grades of some more quarters that i recently picked up: 1961 Silver quarter 1971-S I pulled it from a proof set (the proof set with the s nickel) 1976-S Bi-centennial silver clad quarter:
My first take on the 61 is that it is proof, but you camera is shaking just enough for me not to know for sure. I may be able to guess MS coins, but not PR's. As for the 76-S, I would go 65 and if there is enough luster, maybe 66.
I'm thinking proof on that 61 also, especially since it appears to be a type B proof reverse. Could be a type B business strike, but it looks an aweful lot like a proof.
