Don't be too ticked off at the mint. If you got any of these babies, it will cwertainly be worth your waiting time. I started at 11:45AM and didn't get my order through until after 2:00 Pm. I shot the works on this one since I believe it will be the most popular Comm released in years. If you buy anything, make sure its the Chronical Set for $65.00. It will be sold out in two days. My only problem with the mint was that when i finall got through on the phone the women told me that her site was up and that she had been selling this material since 11:00 AM. opps I thought the mint said no orders before 12 Noon. What the heck is going on?? I tried for two hours on the phone and the web site at the same time and the phone message kept saying that the mint was not taking anyyyyyyyyy orders!!!!!!! All this being said you will triple your money very quickly on ebay if you choose to sell what you bought. I wish i had more guts to by more and believe me i bought a ton.

Be patient, it will be worth the wait and aggrevation.

I ordered (1) of the coin and chronicles. I'm not sure if the value will skyrocket or not, although all of the C&C sets were rather busts

    Hey BWJR,

What do you base your thoughts that the Chronicle set will jump up on??

    50,000 mintage?

I may buy 10 sets....but just curious about your thoughts?

sometimes the sets w/o any special coin (only paper) are not big winners

Low Mintage and Huge Popularity will force the price up on the Chronical Set.
Sixty -five dollars is not a bad price. I look for it to go for over $100.00 within weeks after shipment and possibly top out at $200.00. Don't miss it, you'll be sorry!!! The longer the wait for shipping the higher the appetite for all the buyers that will miss out. Initially as few as 5000 - 10,000 people will be lucky enough to own this set. The demand for this set will far exceed that number, and yes supply and demand forces the price up.:loud:

I think you're probably right, but it just strikes me as odd that this type of set would increase in value so much, plus go for that in the first place. that's as compared to say the 1897 Barber Half I bought a few months ago... proof... ~700 minted, and who knows how many actually in existence still. PR63 Cert. for ~$400.

I don't know about sets like these. I'm sure it will increase (as you said), I just don't see why coins like the one I bought aren't much more expensive (not that I'm complaining, since there's plenty of coins I can't afford and/or wouldn't pay $10,000 for).

~700 one hundred+ year old coins seems much more "limited edition" to me, but that's just one SJ's opinion. I'm trying to think of a reason to get any of them to be honest, aside from the "what the hell" factor.

I am not sure I agree with you on the demand for this coin. The last few modern Comm. were not that HOT....I think the 2001 Buffalo coin was HOT but the demand died out quickly. A Buffalo coin and curr set which sold for $55 can be found on ebay for only 90-120.

I just do not see the demand for Ben as great. Also the coins are limited to 100 per order....if if was really HOT..they would have limited at 20.

I think you are just creating HYPE....but I wish you the best.

I do not think these will sell out in 2 days....but the good thing is you always have 30 days to return the coins within 30 days if you do not see the numbers soaring as you expect...so I guess its a safe bet.

Also no where does it state the UNC coins are limited to 50,000. Its 250,000 per coin Proof and Unc depending on how orders are placed....so it can be any combination of each coin...but no more than 250,000 total no matter what the mix.

I personally see no attraction to this coin. Can you tell me why you think it is going to be a HOT coin?

Also do you think one coin, Scientist or Founding Father will do better than the other....I do not like the scientist coin at all.

I ordered 1 of each proof and Chronicles. The Chronicles set is The most limited out of all of them and I expect the price to hit $100+ within 30 days. I personally like the Founding Father commemorative. The reverse is a copy of the Fugio cent.

I am not very fond of the scientist design, but it seems like a good investment for now. If the coin flops, I can still get a full refund within 30 days so I don't think I can lose money on it.

From what I am reading from the Mint site, only 250,000 of the scientist coin will ever be minted across the board with the uncirc, proof and chronicles.

The founding father coin doesn't seem to be limited and probably will be minted per diem over the course of 2006.

250,000 is fairly limited compared to the 200,000,000 population in the US, and the foreign collectors. This means there will be enough made so 1 out of every 100 person in the US would be able to purchase one.

Thomas.gov showed both the foundign father and the scientist as being limited to 250,000 across all options...

I like all sides of the Commems except for the obverse of the Founding Fathers coin. I mean, could you make good old Ben look any older or fatter? Poor guy. The reverses of both coins are nice in my estimation with the Continental Currency reverse being the nicest. Which do you think will be more popular, Proof or Unc? I'm guessing Proof, but who knows. Oh, and I don't think they'll be incredibly hot as some here have predicted, but you never know what people will be into.

I'm not sure whether this is accurate pricing, I'm looking to buy one and the cheapest I've come across for just the UNC is $140 on Ebay.

It must be a secret mint challenge to make the ugliest coins possible. The FF is the ugliest coin I have ever seen, and the "scientist" looks like a model. With that said, people are always willing to collect whatever the mint produces, so I got 2 each.

    founding father / american legacy

The "Founding Father" coin is limited to 250,000 units across the proof, uncirculated and American Legacy Collection options.

this is what is said for the founding father coin. there is no american legacy set in the release schedule this year. it was in the release schedule for 2005. what is this suppose to mean? anyone?

    press release

    From a Mint press release:

Later this year, the 2006 United States Mint American Legacy Collection™ will offer a “Founding Father" proof silver dollar and proof versions of all 2006-dated circulating coins. This set will also include a proof version of a coin from the second commemorative coin program for 2006 – if one is authorized by Congress.
