I met an old guy who has a few coins to sell and among them are 25 WL half dollars. They are your average mid 30's to the series end in the late 40's that range in the well circulated G or VG grades IMO. I love Walkers and want them just because there Walkers but with silver prices around 11 bucks a coin for them I dont really know what a fair price would be since there mostly just silver value coins. What would you offer for them? Would you pass them by due to silver prices?
    Thanks

If you keep your eyes open, you can get walkers for well under melt, shipped, on eBay. I saw one lot of 25 go for $229.50 plus $2 shipping just a week ago. That was the day silver spiked down, but it was still well below melt.

$13.00-$14.00 per coin is what I would consider fair .

$14.00 each for low grades seems high to me but I asked for opinions so thanks coinman.

I assume you use coinflation as needed. Total intrinsic silver value per coin is only $10.46 today. $11-$12 each seems more than fair to offer the guy, especially for low grade if buying them as 'junk silver'. $14 seems high to me too unless they are better than you suggested.

Here is Provident's current sell rate, $21.41 for each $1 face.

Today's silver value comes to $261.51 paying $2.00-$2.50 over melt is not unrealistic . The earlier part of last year, low grade common date morgans were going for $14-$15.00 per. You evidently have some figure in mind ? Actually, anywhere between $250 & $280.00 is more appropriate based on todays silver price. So 13-$14.00 is a bit higher than should be. $11.25 per is more like it. Personally, I think we will see silver around $38.00 oz not to far off in the future. But of course that's all speculative on my part.

No, but perhaps a bit excessive (at $13-$14) given this is an in person transaction with little to no overhead unlike a dealer, online seller or auction with fees to consider.

Yea I kindda was around the 11.00 tops mark coinman. I just cant decide whether Im on the silver will rise group or silver will fall group. I do use coinflation also so I guess the real question I was asking was if it is the time to be buying junk silver. I,m a collector and not an investor but I can,t seem to let Walkers and Franklins pass in front of my nose without snatchin them up regardless of there grade. Does that make me a hoarder LOL.

I love a good old walking liberty half! I have 230 that i bought from the junk silver bin, and half are worthy or AU or better! One is a 1943 and is at least MS-65!

One can only guess how PMs will perform, I think there is a lot of room for silver to increase. Since these coins are not super slick worn junk there is the potential for silver intrinsic value to increase and as it does (if it does), more and more 'junk silver' coins may be sold and melted, further eliminating the supply of available numismatic coins with silver conten. If that occurs, even low grade coins take on better numismatic value. So you may do well buying them now for the silver content (investment) but there may come a time when these coins have better numismatic value (than currently) if PMs fall back or level off, as collectible versions in future may be fewer following the current PM frenzy.

Thats a very good point krispy. PMs are a gamble but I am 37 and plan on holding on to my coins for a long, long time so lets see if I can get them at $11.00 each and hope for the best in the next 30 years.

I still have silver that I purchased back when silver was under $5 oz . I, continue ( today's market prices ) buying today. SO, I've always been in it for the long haul, without a doubt. I've suffered through periods of only modest gains, if any at all. Now it's paying off. I'm a believer that we have seen the last of silver prices under $10.00 oz

I have started to hate 43's. Whenever I search a bag of walkers there is always piles of 'em...

I'm 29 and have been collecting for a couple of years now and thats my plan as well. Hopefully it will payoff in the end. I'll probably end up willing most all of it to my kids though.
