This question is more for the Brit collectors, I guess. What's your opinion of the quality of the CGS grading? How do you think it compares with NGC and PCGS? No need to comment on the grading 1-100. Otherwise, what do you think? Does their grading reflect the tighter Britsh standards? Any experience in crossing-over to the other services? http://www.coingradingservices.co.uk/?page=home guy
I'm surprised by their 100 point grading system. Although the grading by CGS UK on circulated coins seems tight, the twenty grades above 80 for UNC seem...well, odd and unnecessary. This is from their web site: guy
Well, 100 points does leave more scope for a precise grade, I suppose. Although I'm not a big fan of slabs and numbered grading systems TBH, because grading is too subjective to attempt such scientific precision. Having said that, for commercial purposes, its probably better to stick with the American Sheldon system for slabbed coins, American coins or not. Without wishing to cause offence, Americans do tend to be a bit more parochial and probably wouldn't be as willing to trust a grading system originating from outside their borders, and considering that Americans are probably the biggest coin collectors in the world, doing anything that might exclude them from the market is not really a good idea...
