I have seen hundereds of these coins online, however i have not seen one that looks like this. I have searched for answers, yet i have found none. Can you please help? It has two small circles in it that appears to be rivets. This coin was given to me from my grandfather before he passed, and was given to him from his grandfather. He claimed it was one of the originals. Is this true? If it is authentic, how much is it worth?
I'm not sure what it is that you find uncommon, compared the the hundreds you have seen . Personally, I think it's a common medalet that were giveaway's from all sorts of business 's and service providers. Now if it had the makers initials on it, it may be worth further investigation. Sorry, I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear.
Perhaps they are some kind of a plug used to repair a hole from a chain. If so, it diminishes it's worth. Are these the size of rivets or from a material that looks like rivets?
They are rivets from which you can tell from the first side that the holes dont go thru. It appears that this was two pieces put together. The rim is crimped together as well. I was told the first few made were made in pieces, put together, then after approved, they were pressed in dies for production. Also, there appears to be some letters or intitals on the rim under the bottom of the coin, however, i cant make them out. I dont have a microscope. Thanks for your help.
I could not find your item in my copy of "Medallic Portraits of Washington". Over 300 pages of Washington coins, tokens, medals and other related items, but no luck in finding your piece, sorry.
