nice i have several 1998 washington quarters i will attach a video or pic if i can, cant attached the video i did . but i may post it on youtube.. when i do i will added it to here
Im getting the searching bug again, im looking at stereo microscopes,,i have 10 red plastic cups in the pantry that have lincoln in them as i was using them for the 10 cup meathod of sorting....oh and nice coin kaosleeroy108
I finally resorted to the 50 tube method of sorting and think I need to expand that to 100 just for cents. The 10 cup method is OK, but it requires a double sort because you need to get the decades seperated. At least for US cents
Usually a cup for each decade of Lincoln Cents. I use 7 for pre sorting. Wheats, 59-69, 70-82, 83, 84-89, 90-99, 00-10, Then on final sort, it's by year and mint.
The key difference is that the machine doubled (damaged) coins have a flat shelf looking damage. The devices are really the normal size, just pushed because of die movement. On doubled dies, the devices are enlarged because of the hubbing process doubled the devices during die set up. So on doubled dies the devices are wider/taller and the doubled area is rounded, not shelf like on machine doubled coins.
Look guys--I'm really not trying to be an A**hole, and I'm sure as 19Lyds stated that there is more going on with this quarter, its just that I'm trying to get a handle on this a little better. I can plainly tell when there are split serifs and well rounded doubles, but comparing just these 2 photos it seems that there is a fine dividing line that I'm having trouble seeing. Both photos seem to me to be flat and shelf-like. Jut not a lot of difference to me. If I only had the #2 pic to go on I would have guessed MD. What am I failing to see here? Sorry if I'm being anal about this, but I just fail to see much difference here.
Popps501. What years are the two images of the coins on post # 11? That would help to make an educational image.
Since we got into MD, I have this 1964 D Washington with an impressive triple effect of the mint mark.
That is also machine doubling. The flat shelf like look gives it away. The coin was damaged with die movement after the strike before ejected.
The first is from 19Lyds post #6 above. An Ike but that's all I know. The second is from http://www.numismedia.com/coinguys/top50wash.shtml It is the 4th pic down--1966 Wash.Quarter #2.
