Thanks to me working night work this weekend I went to Dunkin Donuts for there breakfast sandwich's and return in my change got a decent looking 1921 Wheat cent. Thanks to this forum and hobby every piece of change or cash I get back I have to check for *'s or any other collectible. I will post pics if needed since I know everyone loves pics
Could you tell me what makes pennies get this weird look to them? I had these coins for atleast 20 years, they were past down from my great grandmother with several more in coin book holders.
I have no idea what "this weird look" is. The red is from the mint. It turns brown where it has been handled.
They were likely all red when they were put in the album - however when the pennies were put into the album, care was not taken to not touch the surfaces of the coin or they were pulled from circulation after they had been handled. I too was handed down a bunch of Harris albums with coins looking the same. Some have perfect finger prints as the only brown on them - meaning that the only time the coin was touched was when it was pressed into the album.
