I checked the PCGS online photos and this looks like it would grade at F12. I am trying to educate my eyes to grades. Can someone check my grade to see I am looking at it right. I ordered a book on grading but it hasn't come in yet.
    Thanks

I find that each type has unique characteristics and focal points that should be considered. There's more to grading than just comparing wear points.

I like to start with the rim and work inward. I would be hard pressed to grade this example higher than VG06 given the rim dings, obv. gouge and rough fields...but I'm sure reasonable minds may disagree.

I would agree VG. Ballpark retail $40 - 60. Very nice!

I would think a more accurate grading would be fine detail damaged net good. Those dings will keep PCGS from grading it and definitely lower the value.

Thank you I wasn't sure whether the dings made a big difference now I see they do. This grading is not exact science is it. Hopefully when the book I ordered comes in it will help me to understand better. Thanks for your help.
