I think the young Franklin will be the one that most people will buy. If they are buying just one. I think a collector will buy both (unc) and I still believe that the Franklin half is undervalued and this dollar will help to push the price of the halves up. My favorite is the obverse of the young and the reverse of the old. I like the fact that a replica of the Continential dollar is on the reverse of the old.

    old versus young

yes, indeed. the franklin half is still the best. as for new issue. i like older franklin. it is more like a presentable coin.

I like both of them, but if I had to buy just one, I'd go for the young one I think.

Love the reverse on the old one though.

    b franklin commems

let's see if it can be sold out quickly. only 250,000 mintage limit. but then, other previous commems only sold around 150,000 pc. so there is no way to be the lowest. 1996 atlanta olympics is the best.

    young vs: old

the old b. franklin is the winner. the mint declared the founding father were the first to officially sold out. both proof and unc.

    b franklin mintages

my estimated mintages for benjamin franklin silver dollars are as follows:

    scientist silver dollar proof: 158,250
    scientist silver dollar unc: 41,650
scientist & chonicles set (unc): 49,900

    founding father dollar proof: 170,600
    founding father dollar unc: 29,300
founding father & legacy set (proof): 49,900

    what are yours?.

ps.....50,000 set for each chonicles and legacy set are not low as compared to uncirculated single piece scientist or founding father silver dollar.

I'm thinking the founding father unc mintage will be higher than 30,000 but the total number of unc overall will be much lower than young because of the
50,000 unc in the chronicles set(50,000 + 40,000 or whatever true unc mintage happens to be). This should make for a premium value for the founding father in unc I would think.

Seriously the French came out with a far better and more desirous design than the Americans did. It was almost as though someone in the USA had it in for Ben Franklin with that rather despicable design.

    the founding father

the founding father uncirculated silver dollars can jump up to
$150.00 or more. maybe even higher at $200.00. that is my prediction.

That is your OPINION. I happen to like the American versions better... the back of the French coin is very generic looking and Big Ben looks frumpy but I wouldn't call the coin despicable.
