In my quest to complete my Jefferson collection with all early proofs, I purchased this one. I just received it today. Would you say this is cameo? That sure would be nice! Either way, what would be a fair price. I am trying to impulse buy on ebay, so I am hoping I am getting decent deals at least.
Although I am an avid collector of Jefferson Nickels, I don't collect Jefferson proofs. The reason is the same reason that I can't give an opinion of the grade of your coin. The grading of proof coins is highly dependent upon the amount of hairlines on the surfaces which is impossible to ascertain from a photograph. And while that photo makes the coin look like a very high grade (PF67+), without seeing the coin in hand, I can't give an educated opinion of the grade which is why I don't bid on them sight unseen. The CAMEO designation is a little different. While the obverse seems to have very good CAMEO coverage of the lettering and devices, there is just no way that the reverse is CAMEO. If the obverse has full CAMEO coverage, I would expect this coin to qualify for the star designation but not the CAMEO designation. CAMEO proofs from 1936-1942 are exceedingly rare for every denomination. Ok you answered my question perfectly. I also felt the reverse didn have acameo. But I wasn't sure what they you grade it the obverse was. I got it for a good deal, so i am not disappointed. It was definitely non cameo price. Thank you!
