    Hi,

I am new to this forum and need help with the 1999 silver proof sets.
I am currently trying to find and purchase the set for my husband, and I dont have any clue what a fair, resonable price is for this item.

Can someone please give me a little information on it? It is the only set he does not have, and I need to purchase one in the next 6-8 weeks.

    Thank you all in advance,
    pnut

The 1999 Silver Proof Sets are selling for between $230 and $300, with the majority of dealer sale prices falling around $250 - $275. Most dealers who handle proof and mint sets should have the set in stock and I would recommend working with a local or national dealer that you trust and offers you a fair price.

If you are having trouble finding a dealer, you can always check out www.money.org (ANA Web site) which has a listing of local coin clubs and associations. Through one of these organizations, you should be able to find a local dealer.

Tough question! As a dealer, it is sometimes difficult for me to recommend that collectors use eBay. And, I have a variety of problems with eBay that have been expressed by myself and others in past threads. That being said, if I were going to recommend eBay as a source for anything, it would be items such as a proof set.

I would caution you however, to only purchase a set on eBay that shows the picture of the particular set you are bidding on. Not all proof sets are created equal and eBay is a great place to get rid of the lesser quality sets.

    Good luck.

Why are the 1999 Proofs so expensive. I'm looking at one for $189 on line.

    No problem Mr. B ;)

The subject of the value of the '99 Silver Proof sets has been discussed many times in various threads. It's all in the words you search for as to what will come up. Try using 1999 or 99 Silver Proof set. That should provide you with ample reading material.

CLICK HERE -I found 2 pages worth ;)

I'm looking over that list and now viewing prices of recent Proofs on the harlanjberk site. Why stop with the 99 Proof. Look at the price of the '96 Prestige. And are those UGLY Olympic coins, or what.

One can spend 600+ dollars on a '96 or a 1950 proof which is over 50 years old.
