Hey gang! I'm in need of a little help here. I think I have this coin identified. I'm thinking it's a 1796 S87... Thoughts?
Nice ID. I will confirm S-87 after initially thinking the LIBERTY was too distant. After confirming Reverse E, the best way to confirm the Obverse from the S-88 is to look at the top three hair locks in parallel. Also, the L is well defined enough to see separation between the bottom left serif of L from the Cap. This is often too worn to use as a guide, but not here. The Cap Pole is too weak on the S-89.
Definitely S-87. The single leaf below the R in AMERICA is diagnostic for rev F (87.88.and 89) and only 87 has the LI of LIBERTY separated.
ps For those unfamiliar with Large Cents, I have used Sheldon nomenclature while Condor has used Breen nomenclature in describing the same reverse.
