I bought an uncirculated roll of 55-S pennys today, and as we were searching my wife found this one. She studied it for a long time and wants to know if it is an error. Can you guys please help us figure this out please and tell us what you see and think.

Looks like a lamination error which is a minor planchet flaw. This is a nice one though given the coin, and a nice find! It's not going to make you rich, but it should command a slight premium and bring you a few dollars. Or you could keep it.

I actually think its a struck through error, most likely through grease. A lamination error would have a cracked appearance

I don't think it is a lamination either. I also don't think it has been struck through grease - pretty sure about that because they have smooth surfaces. The only thing I can think of that I cannot exclude is a planchet flaw.

I can't comment on the possible error, but what I can say is that is a beautiful color.

I can also say for certainty that it wasn't struck through grease. It could be a struck though of another kind, or a planchet flaw, but I still think lamination. I almost exclusively search uncirculated rolls, and I can say that I've found retained laminations that when pulled away left a surface that looked very much like this.

It is not the surfaces that make it not a lamination for me, but laminations have edges. Where are these? Also, the surface affects go on to Abe's lapel/chest. There it doesn't jive with anything I have seen - most particularly laminations.

Also, if you look right in front of Lincoln's chin, you can see a silhouette of some possible letters. Maybe an H or ED or something.

I can't see the image either. I am also having trouble seeing images in member profiles, although I can view some images on other post. Is it possible i have a settings problem and if so how can I tell.

I could see this image yesterday, and now I can't. So I wouldn't think its a setting or something you can do.

Pictures are gone, but I'm going to stick with my struck through theory, I've seen numerous coins struck through "something" with the same appearance. Its most definitely not a lamination

It may be that you're trying to upload too big a file. If you upload your pic's to a site such as "photobucket" you can re-size them there and then link them to this web site.
