It all depends on which variety it is. Do some research on coinfacts.

IS the edge lettered, gripped, or plain (look carefully because the coin is worn and the letters may be faded).

If you give me an answer I'll give you a rough estimate.

    Let's make a deal...

well all the information available on that coin is that it's a "1797 liberty cap half cent" on the auction listing, so i don't know ? :-|

anyways doesn't really matter to me what the edge looks like, i just like to add a half cent from the 1700's to my collection. are there huge price gaps between the different type of edges? if so can you list them all? all your help is much appreciated, i'm looking forward to purchasing it regardless

edit: i guess i would want the "lettered edge" type if i had a choice, because i don't have any coins with a "lettered edge" in my collection either

There are 111 examples of the 1797 half cent there in various grades and varieties. Prices range from about $35 to well into the thousands. But you can compare the pics of the coins to the one you are asking about and find out how much they sell for.

$50 is what I would pay.

It looks like the "1 over 1" variety, which is one of the most common, so I wouls also estimate about $50.

It is the 1 over 1 variety (C-1 I believe.) It has decent detail but unfortunately has been bent at least twice.
