Hey everyone, I just purchased these 3 nickels and was wondering what you think about the toning. Is it natural? They arent "monster rainbow" toned. I thought they were very nice looking. I have some nickel proofs that are turning blue, naturally. So I thought there was a good chance these were natural. Also, I only paid $5 for all 3. So its a good price either way I feel.
Please forgive me for asking, but are you sure these blue "toned" ones aren't zinc dipped? I've seen the same color on zinc'ed steel cents.
Blue and violet toning on 1960's Jefferson Proofs is extremely common and very natural. The grade of the coins will probably affect the price more than the toning for these three.
Yes the early sixties proof nickels do turn a nice blue color from a pale blue to dark midnight color. some of the 62's turn a what I call a candy cotton color pale rainbows . nice pick up these will stand out in your collection.
They look fine to me. Nice pickups! I have several from that era and they are similar. Lehigh, that is a stunner! You never cease to amaze me
They look perfectly natural to me. I have many silver proof sets from the 60's with nickels that look like that.
yeah they are nice...the dealer I go to will have a couple of them for me every once in a while and will sell them to me at a price I can't say no too lol. Most are the 60-64 proofs but every once in a while i will get a BU 80s-90s one as welll
Ya know, for the prices you can get these for, I think it's an awesome place to start for collecting toners. Especially with all the artificial junk out there in other denominations. I'm just going to fill up an extra page in the Dansco with these. What i wish I could do is judge the grade in proofs. I just can't
