I bought an 1865 three cent nickle with a rotated reverse and wanted to post it on here for anyones opinion, but I am not sure how to do it. If you could help me I would appreciate it. It's not an expensive coin, but I thought the reverse was cool and since the first coin I ever purchased at a shop was the 1865 three cent nickle I figured this one would be fun to have as well.

Wow, that is an awesome rotation. I don't know much about 3 cent coins, but that seems like an awful good price. I just bought my first one of these last week!

That is exactly what I did, the one I bought just caught my eye. Plus I didn't have one, so I HAD to get it lol. Im hoping someone who is familiar with these will chime in. I am curious about that rotation and its value. :)

I do not know about 3 cent'ers, but rotated reverse seem to common back in the day. I know some series have more than others, but no clue about 3 cent coins. I know I just got a 1913 buffalo nickel with the about the same rotation - kind of cool but not really worth a premium to me. Actually the dealer did not even mention it.

Nice coin, Nice rotation, Great price. As Mark says not really worth a premium, but I've seen a lot of Goods in the $15 range so you did well. Looks like it has some nice cracks on the obv as well.

As a serious collector of rotated coins (on cents, anyway), this coin is rotated 45 degrees if the pic was taken with the coin flipped heads over tails (typically the way it is done) If it was rotated side to side (not normally done, but you'd be surprised how many people screw this up), then it would be rotated 135 degrees and worth a premium.

How many 3-cent nickel's from 1865 were minted with a significant rotation (defined as greater than 90 degrees) you ask? The rotated die census estimates this number to be between 81 and 200 coins, and this seems to be the case for most years in this series. Wow! you say, only 80 of these coins were made in 1865 with a rotation of more than 90 degrees, they must be worth a fortune! Not really - because there aren't many collectors of them. You can easily get them for $40 in lower grades when they come on the market.

BTW, nice coin, you got yourself a good deal.

Thanks for the replys I didn't figure I hit the jack pot, but I still like it and to me thats the biggest part of collecting you got to like em. Robbudo do you have any pics of your cents I like all cents especially the Indians.
