I ordered three, one for me and two for a couple of the other fellows at work, we save shipping that way.
At this point the Gubment/Treasury might be very happy to get the physical silver back. --------------------------- The Mint has announced that sales on these coins has exceeded 707,000. IMO, they are going to hit at least 3/4ths of a million. There is no upside to this coin with these kinds of volumes except for the price of silver itself. Buy them if you like them but not for potential numismatic value.
Then they can utilize the proceeds to enable the Mint to offer us better quality controls and overall service in the future. I'm glad I was able to help them improve this deficiency. This is more or less the case we see with 99.99% of modern US Mint products. However, this wouldn't be a hobby nor would there be a market place for us if collectors/dealers didn't hope and attempt to have fun collecting and enjoying buying and selling them as numismatic items. There is always 'value' in such a coin. Numismatic value goes beyond the price tag in the heart of the collector. The values attributed to collectors are irrational and defy much of reason, be they marked up or ignored and incapable of demanding greater than retail in some short period of time. There should be more emphasis on the value of the hobby in non-profit turning terms. These are collector version coins, not exponentially increasing profitable commodities. They just happen to have that intrinsic characteristic about them. Collect what enriches our collection, knowledge and joy, not merely that which enriches the thickness of one's wallet.
NGC has finished grading the 95 I sent off a couple of weeks ago - here's the results - I'll try and post an image of the 'below minimum grade - might be the hazing issue. Row LabelsCount of Grade PF 70 ULTRA CAMEO 54 56.84% PF 69 ULTRA CAMEO 35 36.84% PF 68 ULTRA CAMEO 4 4.21% PF 67 ULTRA CAMEO 1 1.05% BELOW MINIMUM GRADE 1 1.05% Grand Total 95 100.00%
Sounds like the mint really screwed the pooch on this coin. Seems to me that "NONE" of these coins should have graded below 68. Especially for the amount of money it cost's for the coin and 'then' the grading fee.
Well, I was hoping for far less... At least I only buy 2 a year. One for the book, and one will recoup a bit of money. The mint sure knows how to screw up good things. Kinda like Ford Motor Company.
If they end up making about 775k proofs that means one proof for every 46 bullion versions roughly. Still a good comparison to keep in mind, but certainly not a mintage that makes this a rarity. Just matters whether you are a collector really and if you like collecting the proof versions which I do. The ones I got are beautiful and that is all I care about. Not flipping any here and don't really get much into the grading game. I did get a 2009 and 2010 MS 70 first strike Eagle earlier this year and only paid about $40 for each one- which was an excellent deal considering where silver was then compared to now. I bought them just in case there was no proof this year- I'd still have a bullion version in the highest grade.
I canceled my second order today. Got tired of the mint pushing the shipping date back. What originally started out as a 12/2 shipping date stood at 12/23 this morning. I got my first order. No need to prolong the pain on the second one. Besides, I put the prospective money that I would have spent on the second set to better use. Picked up a couple o' classic commem's. Had more fun and it beats waiting. They're in the mail.....
My ASE Proofs are still in the mail........ They were mailed Nov. 24th....... They have been to Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Des Moines, Hazelwood MO, and Memphis TN. I live in Southern Indiana and they started in Indianapolis. I called my local post office and they said I shouldn't worry and that I WILL get my package eventually...... The suspense is killing me.......
Wise move and I'll like to see what new pieces you are getting to add to your fast growing classic collection! Keep us posted! :thumb:
APMEX has them for $63.99 each and has over 70 in stock....... Mint still has them for $45.95 but ship date has moved to Dec. 30th.
Maybe some of you seasoned collectors can help me out here. I ordered my 2010 ASE proof from the mint because I figured for cheapest cost and better quality that would be the place to order it. However after reading all these posts I'm beginning to worry this might not be the best. Should I have ordered mine from somewhere else and paid the mark up?
My order finally arrived today. The Proof pieces are unblemished and IMHO are of the highest quality . No return here.
I ahve never returned anything to the mint before. They got my package on Dec 6th. Will anything show in my online account when they process it (refund)? How long does it normally take for them to credit my card? Thanks.
