four 20 drakmas coin 1960 one 10 drakma coin 1959 two 2 drakma coins 1962 one 1 drakma coin 1959 two 50 cents coins 1964 Hi everyone Im new here and wondered if you could help me I have the above coins and wondered if they are of any value to a collector or anyone .
If the 50-cent coins are US half dollars, (90% silver or .900 fine) then $15 or $20 for the pair would be about right. (Silver today is at $28.86 per ounce and there are 0.7234 oz of silver in two half dollars or four quarters or 10 dimes. (The old silver dollar coins have less silver in them than the equivalent subsidiary silver coins.) Anyway, $28.86 * 0.7234 = $21.18, what we call the "spot" price. The 20 drachma coins of 1960 were .835 fine (an old 19th century European standard) and weighed 7.5 grams (somewhat more than a US quarter dollar), for 0.2013 ounces actual silver weight. Call it a fifth of an ounce, so four-fifths of $28 is like $22.50. Unless they are Mint State near perfect, the other Greek coins are 50-cent to one dollar items, assuming that you can sell them at all. Most Americans collect American coins and the number of people who pursue modern Greece is small. In 1959-60, Greece was still enjoying its post-WW2 democracy before a junta of colonels backed by the CIA took over in 1967 and ruled until 1974.
