Just wanted to see what everyone thought about this PCGS Genuine of older coins.
What are you thoughts on the subject?
    Thanks everyone,

    Less desirable than what?

It depends on the coin and what you're comparing it to.

If all things are equal, the "PCGS Genuine" will be less valuable (and less desirable to most) than the same coin in a "PCGS graded" slab.

Less or more desirable than a raw coin? Gold or silver coins, is one affected more than the other?

I'd feel safer buying a PCGS genny vs raw. However, I wouldn't buy either and save some more to buy a undamaged one in PCGS plastic

I am primarily interested in copper and hate to see any early copper entombed. The edge is a part of the coin that gets lost and I want to touch at least the edges of a coin which could have been touched by a founder.

Honestly, if I like the coin and it appeals to me personally, I couldn't care less if it is in PCGS Genuine plastic. You have to remember anything in a TPG is still just an opinion. Granted it is a very well researched, backed with money, and encapsulated opinion, but that doesn't mean it is absolutely correct otherwise there would be no crack out game. So if you like it buy it, negotiate a price you can live with. If you want to sell it, sell it, it doesn't have to be in the plastic to be sold.

A coin from the 1830's is more likely than not to have had its surfaces "improved" in some way. 19th Century collectors were big on cleaning coins, and to a lesser-extent retoning them, as part of their preservation "duties".

That being the case, I don't see why PCGS "genuine" status should make an old coin a pariah.

I echo this sentiment. I would have no problem on cracking some of these out for my albums.

i have picked up some really nice so called "problem " coins in genuine holders. Buy the coin not the holder.
