Anyone have any tips on ways to not search the same coins over and over? Are there any tendencies that I need to know about (ie. if I find a successful find at a particular bank should I go back and visit this bank exclusively for roll searching or is it all hit or miss)? Any info would help
I have this issue as well. There are only two banks available to me here on post and it seems like if I dump at one then I can only roll search one which is fine... til they run out of rolls, lol.
I try to "pre check" banks in new areas before deciding which will be my pick up banks and which will be my dump banks. Some banks are better than others and it helps to start on a small scale with many banks as a way of hopefully finding the best pick up sources. If a bank (usually a credit union) has a self service coin counter this is usually an automatic choice to become a "dump" bank because it is so easy to return coins this way. I never pick up coin from a dump bank - only return it. Unless of course I hear silver or see it in a teller's tray. Also, talk to them about how they deal with surplus coins. Some banks have very limited storage space and must pay to ship stuff out. These places are often very happy to sell you surplus coins and save the fees. I leave a business card and ask them to call me and many are great about doing it. Sometimes the credit unions that use coin counters will sell you bags off of these machines which are great because there are no rolls to open. This can create hard choices, but welcome to the drama of coin roll searching.
i get nickels and pennies from "A" bank and dump them at "B" bank. I get Halves from "B" bank and dump at "A" bank. "A" bank hates halves and wont order them from me so guess why i dump them there. Both have a coin counter for account holder so either way is fine
