I have a 1943 s wheat penny that is silver colored and wondering what it is worth ? I have had it for 40 years. I would appreciate any input as I know nothing about coins.

All 1943 cents from all the Mints were made of steel coated with zinc, hence the color you're seeing.
(Just to keep the record straight there were a few exceptions struck in copper.)
Even an uncirculated example of a 1943-S is only worth about $5-10.

More than likely you've got a zinc coated steel cent. They exhibit a silvery finish and, many who are not in the know, mistake them for silver pieces. The mint discontinued copper production of cents in '43 to make more copper available for the war effort. Copper cent production resumed in '44. If you were to ever encounter a well worn, well weathered '43 piece there would be no mistaking it for silver.....
